As a licensed psychologist, I have been serving the Middle Tennessee community for over 25 years.
I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1974 from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Afterward, I lived in France for four years and studied French at the College International de Cannes. In 1980 I moved back to the United States and, after teaching French at a local college, decided to return to graduate school to pursue a doctorate in psychology. During the course of my studies, I worked in community mental health and as an intern, I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with adults and children. The experience afforded me during that time working with all ages, inspired me to continue the trend of working with diverse groups. I obtained my doctorate in Psychology at Tennessee State University in 1993 and since then have been in Private Practice.
Having recently received specialized training in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders, I am now administering the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), the gold test for diagnosing autism and am formulating a Social Skills group for individuals on the Autism Spectrum.
I perform a variety of specialty assessments such as for Social Security Disability, Vocational Rehabilitation, and more recently Bariatric Surgery candidates, among others. Many of my assessment clients are private individuals who are interested in finding out more about themselves or their children through the assessment process. I have the capability to evaluate intellectual capacity and screen for learning disorders. With regard to therapy services, I do both individual and group therapy. In early 2014, I will be initiating an Intimacy group for couples.

Therapeutic techniques:
My therapeutic techniques have emerged from my education in humanistic/existential psychology which involves individual development and finding meaning in one’s existence. I also use Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as I find it to be a very effective technique in helping clients achieve desired goals. Many people struggle with the age old question of who they are, what kind of life they want to live, what they find meaningful in life, developing goals, and how to achieve those goals in a manner consistent with their core beliefs. I work with my clients to develop a therapeutic program to help each client meet their respective goals. In brief therapy situations such as with EAP clients, I use a solution-focused which I find to be very effective. |
